Lemont Methodist Cemetery

Little is available as to the history of this now abandoned cemetery. It may have been founded by a Methodist Church congregation located in Palos, Illinois and also used by members of Lemont Methodist Church. It is located halfway back on a wooded lot, one lot south of the house located at 11901 South Will Cook Road, Palos Township, Illinois. This is about 4/10 of a mile north of the intersection of McCarthy Road and Will Cook Road, Lemont.

William C Bell Tombstone The largest remaining tombstone is of William C. Bell (1825-1899) and his wife, Therese E. (1835-1902), and was once in a large fenced family plot. This may be the family after whom the nearby Bell Road is named. The last known burial in the cemetery is said to occurred in the 1930's. Neighbors had said that the front of the cemetery once had wooden tombstone markers which had burned during a fire.

A book of containing a reading of the tombstones in this cemetery is available for purchase. If available, pictures of specific tombstones any be available for purchase by contacting the Lemont Area Historical Society.
