The cemetery is located on two acres off of Bluff Road adjacent to Argonne National Laboratory and behind a security fence. Public access is restricted and any visit must be arranged in advance through the St. Patrick Church Rectory, 630.257.6134. Inscriptions on some tombstones indicate that burials were made here before the 1849 purchase date by the Chicago Catholic Diocese. Thus, it appears the original owners, Mr. & Mrs. Nicholas Mulvey, who are also both buried there, may have permitted the use of their land for burial of either their relations and/or youngsters of fellow Church members. Earliest recorded is an 8 year old boy in 1831. According to St Patrick's 140th Anniversary book (dated 1980), 10 to 15 people a day were brought from Chicago by horse and wagon during the 1866 cholera epidemic in Chicago. Most of these were buried without tombstones.

A book of containing a reading of the tombstones in this cemetery is available for purchase. If available, pictures of specific tombstones any be available for purchase by contacting the Lemont Area Historical Society. Cemetery Office located at Good Shepherd Cemetery, Orland Park, 708-226-9951.
