LEMONT, ILLINOIS MAPS

As shown above, Lemont Township is in Cook County, and is almost totally to the south of the Des Plaines River. Traditionally, the Lemont area also included the area loosely to the South of the old Route 66/Interstate 55 of Downers Grove Township, Dupage County including what is now Argonne National Laboratory.

While not shown, other areas considered traditionally to be "Lemont" included the land in Dupage Township, Will County directly to the West of Lemont Township, Cook County and, on which was on the East side of Des Plaines River. Also to the south, "Lemont" included some of the northern edge of Homer Township, Will County, where Bell Road, State Street/Lemont Road and Archer Road extends into Homer Township. For many of those residents, Lemont offered the closest churches, shopping, rail, streetcar and other services in the area. Thus, people doing genealogy research should also check Downers Grove Township, Dupage County; Dupage Township, Will County; and Homer Township of Will County in the censuses in addition to Lemont Township, Cook County, Illinois.
