Methodist Church, Lemont, Cook County, Illinois

The church was founded in 1861 and is now occupied by the Lemont Area Historical Society. The building's stone was made out of scree (waste pieces) limestone donated by one of the quarry owners. It has beautiful stain glass windows donated by prominent families such as the Norton's, Singer's and Brown's.

Shortly after its construction, the Church was pressed into service as a regional recruiting station for the Civil War. Lemont Township was required to sign up 33 solders to fight for the Union, but 293 eventually enlisted. Of those 293, only 63 returned. In their memory, an effort is underway to erect a Civil War memorial in Legion Park is currently underway.

The Methodist Church congregation is still active after 145 years in a new larger facility at 25 West Custer Street.
