Argonne National Laboratory Guest HousingLemont, Dupage County, Illinois |
|
Located at the edge of a 1,500 acre compound just across the Des Plaines River from downtown Lemont, Argonne National Laboratory's original Lodging and Guest Facility is still used year round by world-wide roster of visiting scientists, their families and students. Adjacent to the facility is the estate lodge of the last owner, a Gustav Freund, who invented the "skinless" casings for hot dogs and his swimming pool (now closed). He also kept small (Asian) white fallow deer which can often been seen roaming the area. This is a view, circa 1960, is of the original facilities which are now supplemented by a new high-rise 156 room hotel on the West side of the Laboratory. |
