The Lemont Area Historical Society (LAHS) is continuing to research, organize and perserve historical resources in both traditional and new ways to tell the history of the Lemont area. Most of our recent projects involved finding photographs of local sites and organizing them as photo CD or a DVD with narration. :

- Postcards of Lemont from the archives, collections of Joyce Affelt, Howard Mitchell, and Richard H. Lee (who also makes them). Actual size and low resolution are suitable for computer screen viewing or Emailing to friends. Total of 320 postcards in this latest edition!
- Kling collection – photos of the race-winning flyer and local resident Rudy Kling. He was our “Aviator” This could be material for a special program. New photos are added of Doolittle. ( See also )
- WPA and CCC sites around Lemont. Many structures have been built by those employed by the depression-era Federal programs known as WPA and CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps). Perhaps best known is our “Bowl” behind the old grade school.( See also )
- Fournier Institute and Arthur Schmitt mansion. Historical photos of the former Fournier Institute (Later St. Vincent DePaul Seminary) and the home of founder Arthur Schmitt, businessman and philanthropist.
- Barns and Farms – photos of local farms and barns, which are gone and almost forgotten. Nostalgic images of a simpler time when farming was a major business and landowner.
- History of the Lemont United Methodist Church – from the 145th anniversary in 2005. ( See also )
- The Tornadoes of 1976 and 1991 in Lemont – Photos and a DVD video from Red Ordman ( See also )
- Springs and Quarries– underground springs of fresh water that once were plentiful around Lemont and a good source of free drinking water. These springs continue to flow in some locations such as old Bluff Road and into the old quarries east of Lemont. ( See also and quarry pictures)
- Women’s History programs – both VHS tapes and DVDs (2006).
- Saint Mary’s Cemetery and the religious shrines on the Slovenian Franciscan property off Main Street. (approval pending).
- Civil War Soldiers of Lemont. A database of names of men enlisted in the Civil War from the Lemont Area, including Sag and surrounding areas with photos of soldiers. Also gravestone photos from local cemeteries of veterans. ( See also ).
- Cheese Collection of Gas Station memorabilia at the Earl Cheese farm north of Lemont along Lemont Road
The cost of each CD or DVD is $20 for a CD and $25 for a DVD with members receiving a 10% discount plus $2 shipping and are available through our Gift Shop
